In this long-awaited installment of Tech & Loathing, I address listener feedback from a long time ago. And then I ask the unthinkable question: Has Microsoft won? You be the judge. And if you have an opinion, please let me know what it is. Thanks for tuning in after my long hiatus. I plan to stick around this time.

Greetings. I first heard about your podcast from the linuxMint ‘cast and decided to have a listen. As I am not a citizen or resident of the United States i have no opinion on your gun laws. My family culture states that guns have wheels. Maybe an inside joke so time to drop that.
On the current topic: I do not believe that Microsoft will release Windows into the free space. It is not their corporate culture. Also Their shareholders would go ballistic (sp?) if they thought that revenues might fall so much as a cent.
I use Win 7 for a very few tasks as it works with some hardware that I still have. The bulk of my computing is done with Linux Mint Mate. It gets things done. When i worked for a wage i used Unix and whatever flavour of Windows was operational at the time. As I was retiring, our branch was moving over to Red Hat for graphics handling of RADAR and satellite images, and even the Win XP workstations were disappearing.
Given the political aura attached to open source, I feel that a significant portion of those now using Linux or BSD whould still be using them. The “rest” would continue happily using devices and not thinking about the software underpinning the device in hand.
Just my 5 cents worth (inflation).
Cheers.
